Chocolate, spices, and everything… nices
(Except those who go a little too hard on Halloween decor)
Today was the first day I walked outside, and I thought, “Ohhh, it’s crisp.” So it’s officially the happiest time of the year!
I love walking around and sorting out who my “I love fall” people are versus the “I love Halloween” folks. BIG difference (HUGE) and honestly, sometimes I walk past camp #2 and think… is everything ok? Like, how did those headless dolls inside that cage on your porch come to be?
I’ll just be over here spotting out all the crinkliest-looking leaves I can crunch on my nature ASMR walks. And giving the extra creepy homes a wide berth.
Now onto the yummy stuff (like seriously, REAL YUM).
GOLDEN GOODIES
If a gooey brownie were a pie, it would be this Chocolate Fudge Pie. And I know, I’m a brownie diss-er, so let that tell you how incredible this pie is.
The crackle on top + INSIDE a buttery pie crust? Add a little whipped cream on top, and I’m in heaven.
I recently had a donut with a salted vanilla glaze from Hole Doughnuts in Asheville, NC. Rocked. my. socks.
So, when I was planning the topping for this cake, I thought, ohhh, a salty-sweet vibe would do the trick. Cue this recipe for Cinnamon Olive Oil Cake with a Salted Vanilla Glaze.
Together in under an hour, makes a single layer (my fave), and the fudginess of the glaze pairs perfectly on top of the fluffy cake.
Taking lots of inspo from my explorations lately! I had a cheesecake slice from LKN Cheesecakery in Lincolnton, NC (highly rec the shop… not so much the town). I knew I needed to recreate it.
This Butterfinger Cheesecake is quick and easy to get into the oven - the time is in the cooling. It gives that nostalgic balance of chocolate and peanut butter inside a creamy bite… I swear, I really do make the best cheesecakes.
These cookies alone make it into my top 3 favorite cookies of all time. Then turn them into a sandwich with brown butter cream cheese frosting?? Me thinks YES.
I promise, your people will be in love with these Soft Ginger Cookie Sandwiches (and if not, look in the mirror and give yourself some extra love). They’re crinkly, chewy, and perfectly spiced.
These Cinnamon Scones and one of the easiest bakes you’ll ever make. Plus, so soft. Shoutout to my Aunt Marilyn for this tried and tested recipe!
When these make it to a family reunion, they’re gone like *that* (<you have to snap while you read).
Side note: Just in case you’ve wondered what it’s like to bake around my cat, Melvin, he and Albert here could be butter-thiefing twins. Tbf I cackled at this video (even though I’m definitely not cackling when Melv is trying to steal my ingredients).
Ta ta,
Hannah
