Nostalgic bakes for the weekend
sweet and savory edition
I spent last week in the North Carolina mountains, soaking up the remaining fall colors, eating all the cinnamon rolls, and sitting in my favorite spot: a leather recliner under a heated blanket. It was glorious.
Also caught up on my Great British Bake-Off watching. I was a few episodes behind (a dangerous place to be when social media is absolutely DESPERATE to ruin it for you). This is the first season I’ve been miffed at many episodes, so I wasn’t as excited to watch. Let’s just say I’m very curious how the final is going to go tomorrow…
This week, I have a mix of savory and sweet for you. Perfect for cozy weekend bakes, solo or for a crowd (electric blanket not required, though appreciated).
GOLDEN GOODIES
Say no to cold meats and yes to soft bread stuffed with melty cheese, hot meats, and loads of seasoning! My mom’s been making this Stromboli recipe since I was a kid, and it comes together so easily. Perfect fresh out of the oven (well, don’t burn yourself) or sliced and stored in the fridge/freezer and re-heated.
If I had a folder called “one of the best things I’ve ever made,” this Tartiflette Galette would fall into it. A throwback to a possible dish I had while studying abroad once upon a time in Limoges, France. Buttery crust folded around layers of cream, bacon, onions, potatoes, and cheese.
I mean… you can’t go wrong with those ingredients.
Zalabia. The latest world favorite bake and one of my top faves from this series so far. Like a cake cone + a funnel cake flavor in mini donut form.
Because why have a dozen of the same muffin when you can have four flavors in one batch?? We all know someone who prefers blueberry over lemon poppy seed or has a hankering for a double chocolate chip muffin. Now you can make them all in a single batch!
Bananas are the worst.
If you’re in the “No Banana Club” with me but, at the same time, feel jealous of all the yummy banana bread bakes, have no fear. No-Banana Banana Bread.
Deliciously spiced, lightly sweet, and, let’s just say, sweet potato gives you everything you need + a gorgeous color.
Excuse me while I go enjoy the sunshine through the remaining leaves.
Au revoir!
Hannah
