Sweet treats that impress
but in a low key kinda way
What can I say, I’m a sucker for some kitchen praise, especially when I didn’t have to try that hard. Often, it’s relatively easy to pull out those stops, with a few little hacks.
Like using a tart pan (even better if they’re small… cause small = cute, duh), doing some kind of weave with dough, or packing in layers of texture that make every bite unique.
GOLDEN GOODIES
Layers of Oreo crust, fudgy brownie, and whipped mousse-like ganache? Check. A small-batch recipe that makes two? CHECKKKK.
Chocolate lovers, don’t sleep on these individual triple chocolate pies.
This is one of my favorite new recipes to date, inspired by my series where I’m making 50 of the world’s favorite small treats. These Irish fifteens rice krispie treats combine two classics into one tray of ooey-gooey, marshmallowy, biscuity, sweet, chewy, crunchy, absolutely DELIGHTFUL bars.
A throwback from pastry school days, and a simple way to impress but in a lowkey kinda way (no sexy pipework required). This spiced challah bread is filled with all the cozy cinnamon and cardamom flavors + a spiced date filling that weaves throughout the bake (which, if you’re like my mom and hate dates, you can easily skip).
Speaking of world-favorite recipes… This nkate cake is a popular street-side treat found in Ghana, made strictly of peanuts and sugar. Kind of like a peanut brittle, but with fewer ingredients.
coming soon…
-ish. Currently testing these lemon poppy seed crullers (inspired by one of my favorite citrus season treats in NYC). I know I’m so close, but the dough keeps splitting in the oil, so we’re not quite there yet.
I have a few theories, but I need a break from the frying smell.
In the meantime, I just finished updating my guide to the Upper West Side (where I lived for four years, and it’s one of the best neighborhoods in NYC imo). Check it out for some of my favorite eats, shops, and more!
Happiest of baking!
byeeee,
Hannah
